My Infertility Journey

How Hypnotherapy Helped Me Find Hope and Healing

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share my personal journey in the hope that it might resonate with some of you. If you’re reading this, you’re probably familiar with the emotional rollercoaster that is infertility. For over three years, I lived with unexplained infertility. It was a constant cycle of hope, disappointment, and, let’s be honest, frustration. After numerous tests, I was diagnosed with an MTHFR gene defect (my friend and I refer to it as the Mother F%*ker Gene), which could have been causing clotting issues and leading to my miscarriages. I lost three pregnancies and, just when I thought I couldn’t go through anything worse, I had an ectopic pregnancy that led to an emergency tube removal, and nearly the loss of my own life.

But let me rewind a bit—before all the heartbreak, I was an expert in the fertility forum lingo. Seriously, if you’d asked me to define BFP, TWW, and CM at any given moment, I could’ve said them in my sleep. For those of you not in the “know,” BFP means “Big Fat Positive,” TWW is the Two Week Wait (the excruciating time between ovulation and testing), and CM is Cervical Mucus (don’t ask me to explain how that became a whole science). It became part of my daily vocabulary, so much so that even after four years being a Mum, I still get a small pang whenever I see someone else post their BFP. Oh, the memories.

Now, if you’ve ever been on a fertility forum, you know it’s a bit like entering a reality TV show—hormonal fights, emotions flying left and right, and the back-and-fourths that feel like a swirling vortex of chaotic energy. There’s always someone screaming about their BFP, while others beg internet strangers to confirm if that “invisible second line” is, in fact, a sign of a positive pregnancy test. I’ve been there, desperate for a stranger’s validation. It’s intense, it’s raw, and, to be honest, it’s also kind of unhinged.

After multiple failed cycles, my partner and I decided to try IVF. Our first cycle was unsuccessful, and that’s when I truly hit rock bottom. But here’s where things took a different turn: I found hypnotherapy. It wasn’t my first time trying it—funny enough, I initially used it to quit smoking (a habit I had for 20 years, believe it or not), and it worked instantly. My mind was blown. No cravings, no struggle—it was as if the habit was just gone. So, naturally, I thought, “Why not try this for fertility?” And I’m so glad I did.

Through hypnotherapy, I was able to visualise a positive outcome, heal emotionally, and connect with my body in a way I hadn’t been able to before. I told my subconscious mind what I wanted and needed, and after the second IVF cycle, I became pregnant with twins!

It was an emotional and life-changing journey, and it sparked something in me. I realised how powerful the mind-body connection is in fertility, emotional health, and well-being. Inspired by my own transformation, I decided to pursue a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology, followed by training as a Hypnotherapy Practitioner and later, a Hypnotherapy Masters Diploma.

Now, as the founder of Peacock Therapies, I use my personal experience and professional training to help others navigating the emotional challenges of infertility, anxiety, and stress. My services focus on visualisation, emotional healing, stress reduction, and enhancing fertility. I truly believe that working with your subconscious mind can be an incredibly powerful tool on your journey to healing.

Some Struggles I’ve Faced (and How Hypnotherapy Helped):

  1. The BFP Struggle: There’s nothing more gut-wrenching than watching your friends, family, and even colleagues announce their pregnancies while you’re still waiting for your turn. It’s a kind of pain that words can’t quite describe, and every BFP feels like a bittersweet reminder of the journey you’re still on.
  2. The Power of Hypnotherapy: I never expected hypnotherapy to be a game-changer in my fertility journey. After quitting smoking effortlessly with it, I knew it was worth trying again. I’ve seen first-hand how much the subconscious mind can influence our lives and fertility—and it worked wonders.
  3. The Dreaded “Do You Have Kids?” Question: Oh, the well-meaning (but painful) questions. “Do you have kids yet? When are you going to have kids?” If only people knew how deeply triggering those questions are for someone who is struggling to conceive.
  4. The Importance of Support: Hypnotherapy wasn’t the only thing that helped me through. Having a good support network and people I could vent to made all the difference. And the visualisation techniques I learned through hypnotherapy allowed me to prepare both emotionally and physically for the next IVF cycle.
  5. The Mind-Body Connection: We’ve all been taught, from an early age, that pregnancy should happen easily—or it’s a nightmare. Between the “horrors of childbirth” and the idea that we “lose our bodies” during pregnancy, these subconscious beliefs can block fertility. Hypnotherapy helps unlock that, empowering us to take control of our health and our fertility.

If you’re struggling with infertility, emotional stress, or the ups and downs of fertility treatments, I’m here to help. Hypnotherapy can be a transformative tool, and together we can work towards a future full of hope, healing, and potential. You don’t have to walk this path alone.

Beautiful story! The mind and body are definitely connected. I also used hypnotherapy to quit smoking. It really does work!

I’m so glad you liked it! Hypnotherapy should be the first on the list of treatments suggested by the GP’s for anyone wanting to quit a bad habit, it’s truly remarkable what our minds can do!
